About the opportunity

Are you an experienced automotive professional looking to step into vehicle assessing and broaden your career beyond day-to-day technical work?

Manheim Vehicle Services (MVS) is expanding its motor vehicle assessing capability, creating an opportunity for someone with a strong technical foundation, sound judgement and an appetite to learn — even if you haven’t worked as an assessor before.

This role is designed for a developing assessor who wants to build capability over time while supporting inspections, administration and broader operational outcomes across Australia. As the function continues to mature, you’ll play a key role in helping grow the service and embedding it within the wider business.

About us

Manheim is Australia’s trusted leader in automotive remarketing, supporting the full vehicle lifecycle across passenger vehicles, commercial fleets, heavy transport, motorcycles, machinery and damaged assets.

Our Manheim Vehicle Services (MVS) team delivers the physical services behind every successful sale — including inspections, rectifications, logistics, secure storage and end-of-lease programs — all backed by national scale and operational certainty.

As part of Cox Automotive, the world’s largest automotive services organisation, we offer long-term career pathways, structured development and exposure across the automotive ecosystem.

The role

As a Motor Vehicle Assessor, you’ll be supported as you develop assessing capability while contributing to a growing national service.

You’ll assist with live and desktop assessments, provide technical insight to inspection teams and administrative teams, and help maintain the accuracy and integrity of supporting assessment databases and systems. Over time, your assessing responsibilities will increase as your capability develops, supported by training, mentoring and exposure to a wide range of vehicles and scenarios.

Interstate travel may be required on occasion, offering hands-on experience across different operations and asset types.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist with and progressively undertake motor vehicle assessments (live and desktop)
  • Apply technical knowledge to assess vehicle condition, damage severity and repair viability
  • Provide technical guidance and support to inspection teams
  • Support administrative teams with assessment-related queries and clarification
  • Maintain and update supporting assessment databases and systems
  • Support the growth and maturity of the assessing function within MVS
  • Participate in operational projects and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support accurate and timely outcomes
  • Travel interstate when required to support operational priorities

Safety is at the forefront of everything we do. Employment is subject to a pre-employment medical, including a fitness assessment and drug and alcohol testing.

About you

This role suits someone who may be a panel beater, spray painter, vehicle estimator or automotive professional ready to move into assessing, with strong fundamentals and a willingness to learn.

You’ll bring:

  • A strong technical background in the automotive industry
  • Experience as a technician or vehicle estimator in a hands-on automotive role, with a recognised trade qualification in an automotive trade
  • Solid understanding of vehicle construction, repair methods and damage assessment principles
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to make sound, evidence-based decisions
  • Confidence using computer systems and learning new assessment tools
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently
  • A manual driver’s licence (preferred)
  • Flexibility to travel interstate when required

Previous vehicle assessing experience is helpful but not essential — we’re focused on capability, attitude and potential.
